INTERNAL BLEEDING is from the sort of uncompromisingly brutal Death Metal bands of New York. If you like gutripping guitar riffs, aggressive vocals and pure brutality built in technical Death Metal, that is surely for you. Everyone should know what brutal Death Metal is all about. That's why, I asked Chris Pervelis (guitar) to get a more clear picture of INTERNAL BLEEDING's activity and unbelievable brutality.

Your second album "The Extinction of Benevolence" is one of the most brutal Death Metal albums of 1997. What are your thoughts on the album at the moment? Who was the producer and where you recorded this stuff?
- I am very pleased with "The Extinction of Benevolence", with the way the whole process of writing and recording for that LP went. I think it was, at the time a perfect representation of where the band was at musically. Now, I feel that the music is out-dated, as we have advanced musically as well as lyrically since then. The album was recorded at Gateway Sound Studios here in NY and it was produced by the band as well as a guy named Nick DiMauro. I still think it holds its own against many LPs that are being released today in 1999, and I do believe its one of the heaviest releases in the past 3-4 years.
Name us the current members of INTERNAL BLEEDING and say something about their interests.
- Well, me Chris Pervelis (guitar) my interests include American History as well as philosophy and art. Guy Marchais' (guitar) interests include collecting Star Wars figures and exotic guitars. Brian Hobbie's (bass) interests include video games and Star Wars. Ray Lebron's (vocals) interests include beer and women hhahah, and Bill Tolley (drums) is interested in Firefighting.
How the deal with PAVEMENT Music came about? Do you satisfied with PAVEMENT Music?
- Well PAVEMENT saw us perform at the 1994 Milwaukee Metalfest, and it wasn't long after that until we were signed and in the studio recording our first album. I'd say we are pretty satisfied with PAVEMENT, although we'd like to see more promotion from them.
New York is famous by its brutal Death Metal bands such as SUFFOCATION, PYREXIA, MORTICIAN, DEHUMANIZED, etc. All these bands sound similar to the other ones. How do you think can we speak here about some kind of NY sound? Do you concentrate on making every song as brutal as possible or are there any other things you consider?
- I do think there is a definate "NY" sound, one that was pioneered by bands such as SUFFOCATION and further expanded by bands like INTERNAL BLEEDING and PYREXIA and finally emulated by bands such as REPUDILATION, DEHUMANIZED, etc. I think the NY sound is focused on technicality as well as brutality. I also think the goal to make everything as brutal as possible is a definate factor. If you going to write death metal, why shouldn't it be as brutal as possible? We as a band don't concentrate on making everything as brutal as possible though. We try to create as much groove as possible, concentrating on the "pit" or "slam" aspect of our music, while also adding some technicality for interest.
In the same time New York is very famous by its HC bands. Many Death Metal bands from USA changed their music to this style. Will you be splendid to Death Metal in the future or change your style?
- FUCK NO! We are a DEATH METAL band, and always will be.
Explain us the meaning of your very unique cover.
- I think the cover of our CD represents the way we feel about the world. Hatred, frustration, lack of human rights, starvation, war and overall misery. It is like a window to our soul, a visual metaphor for all our songs. I worked very hard on the cover and I think it came out perfectly. I think it expresses our feelings and our outlook on life.
What can you tell us about the lyrics of INTERNAL BLEEDING? How do you think that lyrics fit into brutal Death Metal?
- Well, I don't think we write "brutal" death metal lyrics per sae (???-ed.), I think our lyrics are a natural reflection on how we feel about the world and what is going on around us. I think lyrics are a very important part of any band's body of work. Just writing anything that fits the "brutal" category is stupid. I think it is imperative to have lyrics that reflect what the band is feeling at that particular time. Again, it's like a window into someone's personality, to his or her soul.
Have any of the new songs been recorded yet? Will the new material be in the vein of your last album or will there be a more prominent Death Metal influence?
- Well, we will go into the studio in April to record our new album, which should be out in the summer of 1999; a full US tour should follow, and hopefully a European tour after that. The new music is a bit more dynamic than what was on "Extinction". The music is more technical, more slam filled and much more diverse than the last album. It's also a lot faster than the last album too. I cannot wait to record it!
What do you think about this war between Iraq and USA that may happen in future? (Or it already happened?) It can be the prologue to the 3rd World War, isn't it?
- Well, personally I think if America is to do something about Saddam Hussein, they better do it now before it's too late. We must destroy the power structure that is holding Iraq together. If that takes bombing them into submission and killing the populace, so be it. I personally think that we should invade and just forcefully remove Saddam Hussein. As for being the prologue to WWIII; it might be. If so, maybe it is good that this happens now before these psychotic Muslim fucks get ahold of nuclear technology and destroy themselves and the world!
