FORGOTTEN SPIRIT was formed in October 1995 by Vladigor (guitar) and Ares (drums). At first they worked with session bassist and guitarist. Izot (vox) joined the band in January 1996, and then came Ratibor (keyboards) and Svetozor (guitar). The complete line-up was formed in November 1996 and the same year they began to work on their debut album "The Masters Of Slavonic Forests" in S&P Records (Sumy) where Virem (bass) joined the band. In Winter'96-Spring'97 this work was completed. This is 40-minutes album made in style of Slavonic Sympho Folk/Black, which consists of 6 tracks of proud but forgotten slavonic tradition which based on Black Metal with some folk melodies. Since Summer'97 the band finally found the name - FORGOTTEN SPIRIT, which explains the creative and spiritual soul of it. The help in promotion was received from UKRAGH Productions and Edward, the creator of this underground label, he became also as a manager of FORGOTTEN SPIRIT. The first gig under the name of F.S. the band made on extreme festival Abstract Aggression-III with BLEEDING, STRAFACTION and ARTEFACTED IRRELIGION. Before that, there were some gigs in Ukraine with NOKTURNAL MORTUM, LIMITED MUTANTER, SAINTODIOUS, CERBER, etc. In the beginning of September'97 UKRAGH Productions released MC "The Masters Of Slavonic Forests" which received a good critics in the underground. Belorussian magazine LEGION called FORGOTTEN SPIRIT together with NOKTURNAL MORTUM and SORROWFUL GOD the best bands in C.I.S.. Since Autumn'97 F.S. began to work on the new material, called "The Legacy", which will consists of 8-9 new tracks, more aggressional, technical, but with melodies and spirit of ancient slavonic traditions. Give the description of the underground in Sumy.
- In fact there's no any underground in Sumy. The only bands are BRAINSTORM, ARTEFACTED IRRELIGION (the band of our mananger), and ours.
Have you any difficulties with gigs' organisations (I mean different judeo-christian assholes-organizators).
- We don't have contacts with idiots and that goes to our earlier line-up which was consisted of 50% of idiots. I am the one who remained from the earlier stuff and started all from the beginning again. As for gigs, we receive help from NOKTURNAL MORTUM and all the gigs in Sumy are organized by me.
Have you any contacts with foreign bands and labels?
- Suchlike contacts is the matter of our mananger and vocalist. I cannot tell more about it.
I heard that many Ukrainian Black Metal bands are ignore the Belorussian magazine namely LEGION. Why it is happens and what is your positions about it?
- It all started due to NOKTURNAL MORTUM who are very conflictable band. Many people call LEGION a pop magazine. But we don't care. If someone interests in our music, so why not? The main things are the music and soul and we are not deeply in all this "false" and "true" aspects.
How you call your music - Black Metal or in another way?
- We call it Slavonic Metal due to the elements of slavonic folk which are present here. Soon we shall release our new album namely "The Legacy" which will be more pefect, powerful and interesting. It will be released in the end of January. And our first demo "The Masters Of Slavonic Forests" will be re-released as split with "The Legacy" including photos, lyrics, etc.
Will you have the lyrics on slavonian languages (I mean ukrainian and russian) in future, cause as for me it is more closer to the slavonic paganism than English.
- Yes, we will. Two songs from "The Legacy" are on Ukrainian language and one on ancient slavonic. We shall write all the lyrics on our language in future. But as for me, English is better for the hard music.
What music you prefer to listen to?
- We listen to different bands from SADIST to Black Metal. I prefer Black Metal more.
Nowadays many people deny such bands as VENOM, CELTIC FROST, MERCYFUL FATE, BATHORY etc. who were the founders of Black Metal. What can you say about it?
- It's all foolishness. Such bands are the sources and history and they deserve respect.
I think that such music like yours or NOKTURNAL MORTUM's is hardly understandable for the youth poisoned by modern american ways of life. How do you think will it all be changed someday?
- It will be changed when people will understand and accept our feelings and emotions.
Tell your plans for future.
- We shall make a gig in Sumy and then some gigs in Ukraine and Belorus. I think that Ukrainian scene is much better than Russian or Belorussian.
And now about ideology. Why you took such name as ARES? Have it something with the wargod of the Ancient Greece?
- I don't mean the Greek God of War but a sorcerer under such name who lived in the time of Prince Vladimir. All our names are Slavonic.
What is the paganism for you: religion or something more?
- Paganism is the state of my soul and way of living. It is not only a religion. The Spirit of the Earth it is where we get our feelings and emotions. We have our own gods and don't need jewish deities.
What is the main thing for you, ideology or music?
- The main thing is the music, but ideology is not a last thing for us. These points both are equal in our band.
Many people think that nowadays paganism must be extremely nationalistic and even fascistic to survive. What is your point of view on that?
- None can resurrect paganism due to the absence of unity between people and consciousness which were changed by christianity. Everybody can accuse each other but they can't unite. The last thing is to follow your own way of living.
Have you studied any ancient cults and religions? Your opinion about Necronomicon and Wicca.
- It is history. It is exists and there's nowhere to hide from it. We support all the antichristian cults and organizations.
What do you think about different so called "viking metal", "nordic metal" or "celtic metal" bands from Ukraine and Russia?
- They are assholes and posers. Nothing more to say here.
Have you any contacts with Satanism?
- Yes I have a direct contacts with satanism, but our vocalist is more deeply in such things.
Are there any problems with different christian organisations?
- Yes, we have some problems and they will be for sure. Sometimes these assholes turned off the light during our concerts.
