The Cythraul Klan of ABSU strikes back again. About the new release and mythological themes behind it Sir Proscriptor McGovern told us a bunch of plentiful facts.

Your new material entitled "In The Eyes Of Ioldanach". Will
it be different in musical conception from the album "The Third Storm
Of Cythraul"? Who was your producer and where you recorded this material?
- Yes and no: the euphonic approach on this mini-disque, I would state, has quite a few similarities as "The Third Storm Of Cythraul; however, the arrangements are implemented more progressively and more banefully, utilizing faster-paced tempos this time around. Besides our debut album, I feel this mini-disque has the best studio production overall. It was recorded at Nomad Recording Studios in Carrollton, Texas by chief engineer 'Sir Kol Marshall', who is rather infamous for his aptness and skills in working on the latest KING DIAMOND and MERCYFUL FATE recordings. By his side was Vincent Rossi, who co-engineered it and is the owner of the notorious Plymouth Rock Recording Studios here in the Dallas area.
Who was Ioldanach, and what happened with his eyes? Can you explain
us the lyrics of "In The Eyes Of Ioldanach"?
- "Ioldanach," in Celtic mythos, is the mightful deus of
magick and cunning dexterity, so his forecasts, his predictions are what
we speak of in this mini-disque. The opening track, "V.I.T.R.I.O.L",
narrates not only what occurs throughout our entire first album, but is
the alchemical formula of the great "hidden stone in the Earth",
"the abyss" and "the Unicursal/ Universal Solvent"
of the Primum Mobile. The initials of "Vitriol" concoct an acronym,
and are made up of this alchemical formula (Latin Terminology: Visita Interiora
Terrae Rectificando Invenies Occultum Lapidem; English terminology: We
Shall Visit The Interior Parts Of The Earth {The Abyss} By Rectification,
Thou Shalt Find Immortality Through The Hidden Stone). It represents a
balanced mixture of the three elementations in this principle: sulpher,
mercury, and salt. These names can also be represented by Atu I, III, and
IV. What I am saying is that if you follow me to the inside portions of
this particular planet, then I can show thee what the "underworld
paradisio" is actually like in an escapaded afterlife. The second
song, "Hallstatt" is a rather chronicled one intialized by Equitant
Ifernain and thyself, concerning a lost and ancient culture in the southern,
central portion of Austria. Roughly 2000 tombs of some of our ancestors
were robbed by a "certain" enemy, a fiendish foe of ours, so
they shall and will pay by the conclusion of the song. The did, indeed.
"Manannan" is, by far, the most baneful and ferocious track on
the MCD, due to the fact that he is the major deus of sea and wind and
could infamously cause horrendous storms and was able to make the sky/stratosphere
literally fall/collapse in Celtic mythology. Lastly, "Never Blow Out
The Eastern Candle" is a track based upon pure ceremonial magick,
also concerning the beacon of Thoth. The symbolism behind this monumental
track is like the 'mother of science' to me, as I claim that all "actual"
objects were regarded as "dead" in one point in time; there was
great difficulty in transmuting Moonfire because Moonfire, as she acts
in nature, is distillation of power and magick. This goes back to bringing
the soul to the process of immortality in a sort of "Otherworld"
more or less. Now, the cover illustration represents ABSU, as it is called
the "sigil of t'wa Cythraul Klan". This is the best way I can
explain it: the serpent represents the plight of immortality of each ABSU
member, and it's eyes symbolize Ioldanach for what he views within our
past lives. The Scottish dirks have gold hafts at the end of each handle;
one of them bearing the name "Cythraul", while the other conducts
the name "Vitriol". The amputated hands symbolize what once was
an ephemeral tyrant during these particular ancestral roots. In conclusion,
put all of it together in place and formulate what I have been explaining
throughout the interview thus far. It's all in the glorious name of Ioldanach!
Your style called Mythological Okkult Metal. Why you decided to categorize your music in this way?
- Lyrically and image-wise, how could we possibly be a black or death
metal outfit, poetically?!!? The music, yes of course, we concoct these
styles together, along with some thrash and progressive rock elements in
order to come up with "mythological occult metal". You know,
we're praising such themes like ceremonial/ritual magick, alchemical sciences,
warding, Voudon gnostics, tasseographic rites, Sumerian/Mesopotamian/Assyrian
mythology, Celtic/Pictish legends, knighthood, and especially the traits
that lead back to our ancestral bloodlust. That's right: Scottish &
Irish attainments.
You are a very active person. Beside ABSU you have many projects
like PROSCRIPTOR, MOONROOT... What things motivates the music of these
projects?
- Magick, the occult, and thy complete adoration for musick.
Always when I listen to your album "The Third Storm Of Cythraul" it reminds me to the old thrash bands' atmosphere which was characteristic for bands like DESTRUCTION, KREATOR or SODOM. Was ABSU influenced by these bands? What's your opinion about the new albums of KREATOR and SODOM?
- We are influenced by those bands naturally, but we do not try to
imitate them whatsoever! Of course, their newer material is not as monumental
as their archives, but it's not too bad...well, especially the SODOM is
not so bad at all! The KREATOR album, "Outcast", is not all that
great, as I don't even believe there is one guitar solo throughout the
entire recording! I personally thought "Cause For Conflict" was
the best studio album KREATOR gave birth to since, oh...shall we say "Extreme
Aggression" maybe?
You will performing drums on AVERSE SEFIRA's new album "Homecoming's March". Can you tell us more about this? What do you think about AVERSE SEFIRA in general?
- They selected a SR-16 drum mechanism over thy own abilities, but
that's alright because I am too occupied with six other bands anyway. Yeah,
Konx Om Pax Et Allaxitonia!
I've heard about the participate of ABSU on tribute albums of KREATOR
and DESTRUCTION. What labels released these materials? Name us the tracks
you played there?
- I am so fucking disgusted with both of those tributes, that they
shouldn't even occur, dammit! Well, I know the DESTRUCTION one will not
be released, unless another individual/label will decide to release it
later on down the road! The KREATOR tribute will be released on FULL MOON
Productions, which I assisted in putting together, but we refused to be
a part of it, due to some of OSMOSE's laws! Anyway, we recorded "Flag
Of Hate" by KREATOR and "Bestial Invasion" by DESTRUCTION
and once we knew we were not going to feature them on the tributes, we
then decided to contain them on a MCD we never released monickered "Thrashstorms". It's like a cheating cash-in to me.
You have your own label DARK AGE Productions. What materials has
been released so far and what do you plan to release in the future?
- The label is currently on "pause" at the current moment,
due to the fact that I am now the only "sole" who is operating
it. When I have prompt time to start this enterprise up again, I shall.
Some ot the artists we have are PROSCRIPTOR, THE SOIL BLEEDS BLACK, NO
FESTIVAL OF LIGHT, PROFANE GRACE, AKRABU, AKHKHRU, COMPENDIUM, LYTHRA,
EQUITANT, VALOR, CERNUNNOS' WOODS, UNDER CRUSHING WINGS, etc.
What is your opinion about WWW as the informational center? Nowadays
we can get more information from Internet than from any magazine.
- It's efficient and sufficient to use for thy useage.
When your next European tour shall take place? With what bands you
would like to play?
- We will perform on the "No Mercy" tour in April with EMPEROR, MORBID ANGEL, SIX FEET UNDER, LIMBONIC ART, and PECCATUM. It's all I know
at the present moment.
Tell us your last visions for the end.
- Fuck, I am the burning of the ancient flame, you suckers! Thank all
of you for reading this damned interview and remember your ancestors; it's
only the truth locked within your liquid, glass-cased heart!
